Name: Daniel Edward Hoult
Date of Birth: 4th December 1983

Other than radio, what other interests/hbbies do you have?

Outside of radio I am a keen Psychology student. It's a very diverse subject as it includes lots of hard science (e.g neuropsychology and biology), maths and statistics as well as what most people think of, the social psychology. If I had to pick a favourite area it would be Child Psychology, however I am doing a Media Psychology module which includes print, T.V and radio. Very interesting!

When outside I'm not particularly sporty so I don't follow much on telly but I do enjoy biking; that's cycles and not motorbikes!

What have you achieved so far in radio? What is it that you like so much about the medium?

I am very pleased to be continuing my radio presenting experience with CMP having moved on from a smaller ‘Net station. Presenting is the best thing I have ever done to increase my overall confidence; it has made a big difference. Internet radio specifically is great but of all the potential interactivity. If someone is sitting at a PC it's just so easy to get in touch, and indeed keep listening for the whole of the working day. Thinking of the whole world wide audience just reminds me how vast it is. Internet radio is hugely understated in my opinion.

In radio, who's your favourite personality and why?

I can't pick one favourite radio personality. I enjoy listening to variety stations. By that I don't just mean music, but talk and news. I listen to national stations and local stations, both “big” and community stations. I listen mostly for the show as an overall production, not just music or DJ personality. .

When did you join CMP?

I've been presenting on CMP from day one, literally! I moved away from a smaller station because the background and aim of CMP Radio inspired me. To be honest, I wondered if something as adventurous could exist and remain on air. I certainly wanted to be part of the station from the earliest opportunity.

If you could offer one tip to a newbie presenter at CMP, what would it be?

It may have been said by someone else, but enjoy the experience. There is little point on putting yourself through the stresses preparing a show if you just sit being nervous, and it would sound like it too. Very negative. Try and get over the fear of talking to a lot of people and enjoy the experience!

Has anything embarrassing happened to you whilst on air at CMP?

Luckily nothing extremely embarrassing has happened… yet. Small mistakes happen in live radio, but it's just part of the “buzz” so it doesn't really matter. Most importantly I haven't said anything really stupid, just a bit stupid!

What are you goals in life? How many have you achieved? Where do you want to go with your career?

Career-wise I am split between Psychology and radio. I am very serious about both and for the time being I want to keep both. I see Psychology as a vast subject and there are many career options it can lead to. Radio I find very enjoyable and I aim to take it further than CMP but I think I would feel guilty getting paid to just sit and talk in between music – you get the idea!

Who's your favourite presenter on CMP and why?

I can't give this one a straightforward answer, sorry!

I am pleased to have worked so much with Aaron “Chart Man” Beadle. On his solo shows he copes so well with all those numbers in the chart and when co-presenting with me, it's just great fun. Many similarities between us, which is scary really…!

I enjoy listening to Ben Evans on air because I can always learn something from his shows; there's so much he knows about music and the world of radio. Marvellous!

If you could be someone for one day, who would it be and why?

I don't have one person who I'd like to be as I'm happy being me. I suppose a day in the life of a top BBC Director would be an interesting insight to see exactly how they run things. Maybe I could create myself a little job for the future too…!

Where would you like to see CMP Radio in 3 years time?

I'd like to see the station bigger and with me still on board for a start, please, boss. The growth of the station so far is phenomenal and I am sure it will continue to appeal. The ‘Net is the perfect platform for such freedom and enables so much interactivity from across the globe. I will continue to listen to more variety on CMP every day that I can.
